Refreshing the BBC sport website

So I’m watching the live football text on the BBC website, and it strikes me that the page design is rather heavy-handed. Solid slabs of colour everywhere, excessive wordage, and a general lack of focus on the content.

I sighed, and resigned myself to spending three hours refreshing it.

My version, with which I’m rather happy:

Mockup of improved BBC football page, with fewer words, less strips of colour, and lighter fonts.

(Manchester United lost, by the way.)

MUCH better … cleaner, calmer more elegant!

Yeah I agree, its much clearer and will focus eyes on the key content rather than lesser areas that have prominent colouring.

It doesn’t say on the page but I am sure they use AJAX to update the content automatically?! An own goal if they aren’t… I know poor pun but couldn’t resist! :-)
